Spent the last 24 hours getting acclimated in Tel Aviv. What a beautiful city by the sea. I was as surprised by the size of the surfing community as the hotel staff was surprised by our team’s hockey gear.

Had dinner last night at a restaurant on the beach with some teammates and my cousin Matt who is coincidentally in Israel with his BBYO organization (an international Jewish youth group). It is so great having Matt here as we don’t get to spend a lot of time together, especially alone, given he lives in DC. He is playing a hybrid role as family member, tour guide, super fan, and agent. Matt and I had a great walk this morning to the old city of Jaffa where we got in a workout and some local baked goods.

Now, a group of us just loaded up a van to head to Jerusalem where we will be for the next two weeks. We have our first practice tomorrow morning at Pais Arena where we will be playing our games. I’m looking forward to getting on the Israeli ice and using my equipment rather than just hauling it around.
